To enable the Member States of ROPME to cooperate and achieve regional integration in order to protect and sustainably develop the marine and coastal environments of the ROPME Sea Area (RSA), through an integrated strategic framework that combines ecosystem protection, scientific knowledge advancement, and enhanced community engagement.
Ecosystems
Protecting biodiversity, restoring marine habitats, combating land-based and marine pollution, and addressing the impacts of climate change, through the Biodiversity Conservation Programme (BCP), Pollution Prevention Programme (PPP), and Climate Change Programme (CCP), while applying the Ecosystem-Based Management (EBM) approach and strengthening Marine Protected and Conserved Areas.
Knowledge & Innovation
Enhancing environmental monitoring systems, standardizing marine data, and supporting scientific research and development through the Marine Environmental Knowledge System (SMEK) and the Research and Development Programme (RDP), while leveraging modern technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to support environmental decision-making.
Advocacy & Partnerships
Strengthening environmental awareness, expanding community participation, and building regional and international partnerships through the Cooperation and Engagement Programme (CEP) and the Blue Outreach Programme (BOP), while promoting blue education, environmental diplomacy, and enhancing regional emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
Through this mission, the Organization seeks to establish an integrated regional marine system based on cooperation, innovation, and knowledge exchange, thereby enhancing the sustainability of marine resources, improving the quality of marine and coastal environments within the ROPME Sea Area, and supporting the achievement of sustainable development at regional and global levels.
