Description

The Regional Environment Day 2022, held under the theme “The Role of Blue Carbon Habitats in Mitigating the Effects of Climate Change,” was conducted virtually. As part of the celebration, ROPME organized children’s drawing and environmental essay competitions to raise awareness about the importance of blue carbon habitats. Member States submitted all entries by email for online display. Participants addressed key topics such as the definition and significance of blue carbon habitats, the impact of carbon emissions on global warming, the link between global warming and climate change, and the effects of climate change on coastal and marine environments. They also highlighted how blue carbon habitats help mitigate climate change and the role of individuals and society in protecting these ecosystems. The event concluded successfully with cash prizes awarded to the winners, along with appreciation extended to all Member States for their active participation. This reinforced the region’s shared commitment to safeguarding marine ecosystems against the impacts of climate change.
