GOAL II: Knowledge
Marine Environmental Knowledge Program (SMEK)
PROMOTE KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER & INNOVATIVE RESEARCH
The focus of Goal II is to support the establishment of an integrated observation, information, and database management system for the ROPME Sea Area (RSA). This includes harmonized data collection, monitoring, and reporting, as well as enhanced dialogue with national, regional, and global science-policy bodies and decision-makers. It also involves utilizing ROPME’s role to translate regional efforts into national outputs in the areas of monitoring (such as harmonizing indicator development and consolidating regional data), assessment and modelling (such as coordinating the preparation of regional assessments that aggregate regional data), and information management (such as displaying information and visualizing trends).
To achieve the objectives of Goal II, ROPME developed two main programs and a set of priority areas under these two programs:
- System of Marine Environmental Knowledge (SMEK).
- Research & Development (RDP).
