Oil and hazardous substances pose significant threats to marine and coastal ecosystems, human health, and socio-economic activities. Accidental spills, operational discharges, and improper waste handling can cause long-term environmental degradation, disrupt marine habitats, and affect fisheries, tourism, and livelihoods in the ROPME Sea Area.
