The Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME) convened the 36th Meeting of its Executive Committee (EXCOM) at its headquarters in Granada, Kuwait. The meeting was opened by the Chairman of the Ministerial Council, who welcomed the distinguished members and reaffirmed the importance of their deliberations. The agenda was unanimously adopted.
In his address, Executive Secretary of ROPME, presented a detailed report on the progress made since the 35th EXCOM Meeting and the Fifth Extraordinary Meeting of the Council. He highlighted the work of two Ad Hoc Committees on program reorientation and administrative and financial policies, as well as ongoing reforms to strengthen transparency, improve daily operations, and enhance communication with Member States.
The meeting also reviewed future activities and the proposed budget, ensuring alignment with Member States’ priorities and regional environmental challenges. EXCOM Members commended the Secretariat’s efforts in restructuring policies and programs and emphasized the importance of enhancing ROPME’s capacity as a regional platform for cooperation and environmental protection.

In conclusion, the Committee expressed appreciation for the progress achieved under the new leadership, endorsed the direction of future activities and budgetary planning, and reaffirmed the commitment of Member States to work together under ROPME’s umbrella to safeguard the marine and coastal environment of the Region
