The Regional Organization for the Protection of the Marine Environment (ROPME) convened its Sixth Steering Committee Meeting at the ROPME headquarters in Kuwait to advance the preparation of the Strategic Plan 2024–2028. The meeting brought together representatives from all member states, the ROPME Secretariat, and CEFAS, with delegates from the Islamic Republic of Iran participating virtually.
The Executive Secretary of ROPME opened the meeting, welcoming participants and providing a briefing on previous work related to the Strategic Plan. The two-day meeting followed a structured agenda that included presentations, discussions, and reviews of operational and organizational plans.
The Committee also discussed capacity-building initiatives, organizational and financial arrangements, operational priorities, and the management of ROPME facilities in Kuwait and Bahrain. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for the organization were reviewed, with agreement to include only corporate-level KPIs in the Strategic Plan, leaving program-level KPIs for future annual execution plans.
Participants examined the current organizational structure and agreed that restructuring was necessary to enhance operational efficiency. The Committee emphasized the importance of periodic monitoring and review of the Strategic Plan, with at least two evaluations over the next five years to ensure effective implementation and necessary adjustments. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Executive Secretary of ROPME expressed appreciation to all participants, including the Chairman and CEFAS representatives, for their cooperation and valuable contributions.
